Emergency guide · 15 foods

Foods that are toxic to dogs.

These aren't allergies — they're genuinely poisonous, and reactions can be fast. Keep every one of these out of reach, and know what to do if your dog gets to one anyway.

⚠ If your dog just ate something on this list
  1. Take it away and note what it ate, roughly how much, and when.
  2. Don’t wait for symptoms — and don’t make your dog vomit unless a vet tells you to.
  3. Call your vet, an emergency clinic, or a pet poison line straight away.
  4. Keep the packaging or plant to hand so they can judge the dose.

US lines — a consultation fee may apply. Outside the US, call your local vet or emergency clinic. This guide doesn't replace professional advice.

The everyday risk

Most poisonings are a stray treat.

The same habit that protects an elimination trial protects against this: check before you give. ThePawcess lets you scan a treat or chew and asks “safe for my dog?” before it reaches the bowl.
